Delivery Express is a freight transport company whose warehouse worked as a cross-docking point: unloading and loading delivery vehicles the same day. Much of the space sat idle, generating costs without generating revenue. That's where the opportunity came from: offering storage and order fulfillment to a distribution company whose orders shipped from Bogotá — by storing locally, its customers in Cali started receiving same-day deliveries.
That first inventory was managed in Excel: enough for one client, unsustainable at scale. Turning the service into a formal 3PL business line required full traceability, and each client needed to see their inventory and submit their orders in real time. That's how the WMS was born — today in continuous development and in production.
My role
Full design, development and deployment as sole developer (2025 – present): requirements gathering with the operation, architecture, backend (Django REST), frontend (React + TypeScript) and infrastructure (Docker, VPS with Coolify).
Key features
- Multi-client inventory: each company sees only its own stock, in real time, with support for different inventory types.
- Order portal: clients submit their orders directly on the platform, triggering fulfillment without calls or emails.
- Fully traceable movements: inbounds, outbounds and transfers recorded with user, date and reason.
- Task-based picking: fulfillment is organized into assignable tasks, keeping a record of who picked what.
- Multi-warehouse by design: made it possible to extend the service to a second site in Bogotá.
Results
- Turned idle warehouse space into a 3PL business line: from 1 client in Excel to 6+ companies on the platform.
- Same-day deliveries in Cali for clients that previously shipped from Bogotá.
- 100% traceability of stock movements since going live.
- The platform is now part of the sales pitch to win new storage clients.
